To 2017, and beyond! by Colleen Schmidt

Well, hello! It's been awhile, eh? :) As I started running full speed ahead into the first work week of 2017 I couldn't help but look back, just one more time. I was thinking back on all the amazing couples that let me into their lives and document their "BEST DAY EVER" or families that let me capture sweet moments in 2016. I was blown away by everything 2016 brought me!! So I decided to dust off the ol' blog and share some of my favorites of 2016. :) Now--I have full intentions to blog these amazing weddings (there is way too much to just share a few from each)!

BUT! in the meantime, take a little peak at what 2016 looked like over here at Colleen Schmidt Photography:

Holy moly, 2016. Hooooly moly. I am looking to 2017 to grow this little business even more!! I can't wait to document the "BEST DAY EVER!" for many new couples (and hopefully be better about blogging them all along the way. HA!)

To all my 2016 clients: Thank you. THANK YOU. THANK YOUUUU!! This has been an absolutely amazing year. I am so thankful all of you let me document such special moments in your lives. I truly can't thank you all enough for the kind words you gave and trust you had in little ole' me. YOU ARE ALL THE BEST!

To 2017, and beyond!

Maggie and Justin- Happy in love! 8.22.2015 by Colleen Schmidt

I actually did not meet Maggie and Justin face to face until their wedding day. We had been emailing back and forth and I had been drooling over their epic hikes and adventures in Colorado (where they currently live) on Instagram. Usually I like to meet the couples I'm working with so that everyone is comfortable and I can get all my awkward out before the day (lol). However, I quickly realized that not meeting them beforehand was not a problem at all! I walked into the rehearsal the night before their big day and instantly felt welcomed. I was greeting by big smiles from Maggie and Justin and it all just clicked as if I had known them and their families forever!

I wanted to start something new in my blogs: I want to start saying what my favorite part of the wedding day was. For Maggie and Justin's day, my favorite moment was during the ceremony. It was a small moment, but meant so much. Maggie and Justin's mothers went up to light the unity candle--they held hands. The candle Justin's mom lit blew out and she had to go back up to relight it. She did not have to go back up there alone, Maggie's mom went right back up there with her--they continued to hold hands the whole time.  It was just such a sweet and simple gesture that truly proved something about Maggie, Justin and their families. The whole time during Maggie and Justin's wedding there was an overwhelming sense of unity. It was obvious that these two families were meant to become one big happy family with Maggie and Justin's undeniable love gluing them all together.

Maggie and Justin,
You two. Seriously. Are. The. Best. I am so so so so honored that you trusted me to be the one to document your day. Thank you so much for whole heatedly including me in the beautiful celebration of your love! I hope for nothing but the best for you two, but I know that with the support you have surrounding you and the intense, honest love you have for each other-- that will not be a problem at all!

Maggie and Justin's
First Dance Song:

Their day was just amazing! I asked these two what the most memorable part of their big day was:

Maggie's favorite memory is watching all of our grandparents have so much fun at the reception.
Justin's favorite memory is our first dance and trying not to step on Maggie's dress every 10 seconds.

I also asked if these two had any advice for other couples approaching their wedding day:

Our advice would be to take it all in, it goes by so freakin' fast. Make sure you have fun! Don't worry about little things

Kristen and Kyle! Summer wedding FULL of Love by Colleen Schmidt

Kristen and Kyle. I just love these two.  Some of you may know that I have known Kristen for a looooong time. She is one of my sisters best friends from GRADE SCHOOL. Yep, grade school. (My sis was in the wedding! It was so fun!)

I can't lie to you, I always get choked up at some point on a wedding day. I just do, I'm a sucker and I'm ok with that! However, THIS wedding had tears actually falling at maaaany points. It was so awesome to see little Kristen all grown up and GLOWING! Kyle loves her so much and literally looks at her the way all girls deserve to be looked at. Kyle's vows blew me away and all the personal touches on their day just made it so perfect. Kyle has a sister that lives in Switzerland right now and is pregnant and couldn't make the wedding. They had her record a reading and they played it during the ceremony in place of her being there. Such an amazing sweet gesture and made it feel like she was there with them. Kristen's dad's speech got me the most. Woo boy! With all that love and happiness came the dancing, lots and LOTS of dancing. This couple knows how to party, let me tell ya! A Bride's DJ kept the dance floor packed! One of my personal favorite parts of the day: the fact that there was a Disney sing along on the dance floor many times. (Aladdin, Lion King and Mulan to be exact.) And it was AWESOME!

Kristen and Kyle, your day was just the best. Thank you so so much for letting me be a part of it. I wish nothing but the best for you both! XOXOXOXOXO

What was your favorite part of your wedding day:

It’s so hard to pick just one! Right after my dad “gave me away”, Kyle leaned in to kiss me just out of instinct! I said “not yet!” and we both started laughing which immediately took all my nerves away and made me so excited to get the ceremony over with so we could be married! Our DJ also played a few Disney songs that our bridal party and guests got really into. Everyone was singing along and acting out scenes from Lion King and Mulan - it was awesome!

When I got to marry Kristen. I think the moment when we walked down the aisle together after we were married was my favorite!

Any advice for couples in the planning process?

Enjoy each and every moment of your wedding day. Don’t let a minor detail or deviation from THE PLAN stress you out, make a conscious choice to be calm and trust the months of effort and planning that got you here. The day will fly by so take a few minutes throughout the day and night to look around and soak it all in with your new spouse.

Everyone says this, but enjoy every moment and just experience the day. Looking back I do wish that I had taken more time to thank so many of the guests for coming and celebrating with us, so I would say make the best use of your time and mingle around as much as you can!
