419 Day! by Colleen Schmidt

419dayToledoOhioPhotographer.jpg

This summer marks ten years (TEN!?)  since I packed up all my things and moved to Toledo, Ohio to transfer schools and get a fresh start. I have met so many amazing people and have had so many amazing experiences in this city since then. Toledo will always have a very special place in my heart—I wasn’t born and raised here, but I did grow  up here (I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and my love for that city knows no bounds-- that is a whoooole other blog post) BUT! I moved here when I was 22 years young and So. Much. Has. Changed. I changed. This city helped me change into the woman I am today, without a doubt. This city is where I met the love of my life, this city is where we started our lives together (which now involves the best thing that ever happened to me-- my daughter), this city is where I learned about community, this city is where I decided to pursue my dream and start my own photography business, this city is where I have put down roots of my own, branched out of my comfort zones and really made something for myself, by myself.

There is a phrase “You will do better in Toledo”. I know all you fellow Toledoans know it, but for those that don’t: It was a slogan created in 1913 and for years was on an electrical sign in Downtown Toledo. It was recently revitalized and has again become the Toledo slogan, covering street signs, t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc. It’s a way for people to pronounce their Toledo pride and you better believe I’m all over it! I can absolutely attest to the validity of the slogan because I feel like it totally embodies my life ever since I moved here ten (TEN!?!) years ago. I truly HAVE done better in Toledo and for that I will be forever grateful. I’ve watched this city grow so much in the 10 years I’ve been here. I’ve watched each year as new businesses around town pop up- a testament to people believing in themselves enough to follow their dreams. I’ve watched downtown flourish year after year, becoming more and more bustling. Slowly yet surely this city is coming back. I feel like we’ve grown up together, this city and I, and that gives me so much pride.

Thank you Toledo for all that you have given me. Thank you for my little family as well as my big family of in-laws, friends, fellow artists and fellow Toledo lovers. Thank you for showing me my true self and for giving me a place to call my own.

Happy 419 Day, Toledo!!

To 2017, and beyond! by Colleen Schmidt

Well, hello! It's been awhile, eh? :) As I started running full speed ahead into the first work week of 2017 I couldn't help but look back, just one more time. I was thinking back on all the amazing couples that let me into their lives and document their "BEST DAY EVER" or families that let me capture sweet moments in 2016. I was blown away by everything 2016 brought me!! So I decided to dust off the ol' blog and share some of my favorites of 2016. :) Now--I have full intentions to blog these amazing weddings (there is way too much to just share a few from each)!

BUT! in the meantime, take a little peak at what 2016 looked like over here at Colleen Schmidt Photography:

Holy moly, 2016. Hooooly moly. I am looking to 2017 to grow this little business even more!! I can't wait to document the "BEST DAY EVER!" for many new couples (and hopefully be better about blogging them all along the way. HA!)

To all my 2016 clients: Thank you. THANK YOU. THANK YOUUUU!! This has been an absolutely amazing year. I am so thankful all of you let me document such special moments in your lives. I truly can't thank you all enough for the kind words you gave and trust you had in little ole' me. YOU ARE ALL THE BEST!

HAPPY NEW YEAR (week) EVERYONE!!!

To 2017, and beyond!
Xoxo,

2015 Wrap Up by Colleen Schmidt

Well, 2015 literally flew by. I probably say this every year but I LITERALLY can't believe that tomorrow it will be a new year!

What 2015 looked like for me:
- First year down happily married to my best friend! *Heart you, Steven*

- 1st (hopefully annual) sibs weekend!

- Lots of concerts

- Celebrated the last "day" of being single for two dear friends (what happens at a bachelorette party stays at the bachelorette party) ;) ;)

- Went to FL for a girls weekend with Stevens family. I'm truly lucky to have the best second family!

- Had the honor of documenting the wedding of one of my oldest friends

- Had the honor of standing up with one of my dearest friends when she said "I do" to her best friend (who is also a dear friend of mine)

- One of the best weekends of my life on an island with friends

- Received some really hard and scary news about my father. I have been blown away by all of the love and support our family (especially my father) has received! I became a founding member of "Team Tim" and was truly touched by everyone that joined in. This was the hardest part of 2015 by far, but looking to 2016 to deliver even more healing for him.  I know it will. *I love you, Dad!*

- Met my best friends baby girl aka my new BFF!!

- TURNED 30 and had the BEST surprise party EVER! *thank you times a million, Steven and Bridge*

-Riot Fest!

- Amazing trip to NYC with my mom and sis

- Cried so many tears of joy watching my baby sis walk across the stage and graduate with her MASTERS!

2015 was definitely busy for Colleen Schmidt Photography as well! I am so so grateful for each and every person that let me document a part of their lives this year. I am truly blessed to do what I love and I can't imagine doing anything else! You are all the reason I am able to do this and I don't think there are enough thank you's in the world for that. Thank you for supporting little old me and my dream. #blessed!

Thank you, 2015. You have been a roller coaster ride, that's for sure. But life is about the ride, am I right? Ready for the next ride in the new year (maybe I will get the courage to hold up my arms this time going down the hill. Can't promise anything, though.) ;)

2016, BRING IT!
Cheers,
Colleen xoxo

I have a lot of blog catching up to do, and I will! I swear! In the meantime, enjoy some of my favorite shots from this year at Colleen Schmidt Photography:
